"Capturing the Essence of the South: 'Caspian' by Photographer Khashayar Javanmardi"
"Caspian: A Southern Reflection" is a striking photographic collection by Persian artist Khashayar Javanmardi. Born by the shores of the Caspian Sea, Javanmardi's background in architecture from Guilan University of Art and Architecture in Iran, followed by a degree in photojournalism from the Danish Media and Journalism School in 2021, has deeply informed his artistic vision. Now based in Lausanne, Switzerland, Javanmardi's work is shaped by his firsthand experience of the environmental degradation surrounding the Caspian Sea, a vital body of water shared by Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan.
The Caspian Sea absorbs over 122,000 tons of pollutants yearly, depleting its once-rich resources. In his ongoing project, Javanmardi captures the environmental toll on the land and its inhabitants, whose lives grow increasingly difficult as the ecosystem collapses. His work combines documentary photography with activism, highlighting the urgent need for environmental awareness and change.
This powerful project is now available in a photo book, "Caspian: A Southern Reflection," published by Loose Joints Publishing.
